29 Sep HTTPS – That Little s Makes a Big Difference!
Google announced quite some time ago that you should make sure your site is running securely. We can’t say they didn’t warn us! Here’s an article from earlier this year, if you’re interested in all the nitty gritty about HTTP vs HTTPS.
But from an SEO standpoint, being secure and having that extra “s” is also becoming more and more important in terms of how your site ranks. Basically, here in the Fall of 2017, you really can’t afford to NOT be operating your website without a secure certificate. The good news for many is that a consortium called LetsEncrypt has jumped in and made SSL much more affordable — as in, FREE!
Also, many hosting companies now offer this service as a basic part of your hosting plan. We are fan’s of A2 Hosting, but for a longer list of those who offer some degree of support for Lets Encrypt, go here.
It should come as no surprise that the web is incredible vulnerable to hackers and malcontents everywhere, so security should be utmost in your mind when you are rolling out a new site or just maintaining the one you have. If you have any questions about HTTPS, please drop us a line.
Remember, it no longer matters whether you are doing e-commerce on your site or not; you need https!
