22 Jan When Google Punishment doesn’t happen…
If you keep up-to-date with the Internet chatter about Google as it relate to SEO, you find many people frantic about the possibility that their site, or the site they manage, might be “punished” but Google. In particular, over the past 18 months, the Panda and Penguin updates have left people wringing their hands and obsessively checking their Google Analytics. I’ll admit that I always check my client’s sites after an update, but you know what — I shouldn’t have to worry.
Unless you are trying to game the system in some way, there is no need for panic. I can safely say that none of my client’s sites have ever been downgraded, punished or hit with a manual penalty from Google. I don’t say this to brag, only to note that fear of the dreaded Google “punishment” mostly applies to site which are obviously trying to game the system.
If you do the basics correctly; clean code, great content, good user experience — you’ll be fine. As I’ve said time and time again, this is a marathon, not a sprint. Like any good brick and mortar store, you build your clientele over time. They come back for your service, your knowledge and your selection.
The same exact principal works on the web. Exactly.
