14 Apr Content Marketing, SEO & Your Website: Why it matters.
Let’s define our terms. Content Marketing is pretty much what it sounds like. Here’s a definition from the website ContentMarketingInstitute.com:
“Content marketing is a strategic marketing approach focused on creating and distributing valuable, relevant, and consistent content to attract and retain a clearly defined audience — and, ultimately, to drive profitable customer action.”
Let’s take a moment to parse that definition. The key points, at least to our way of thinking are these:
“Relevant and consistent content.” What does that mean? It means writing or producing visual content that actually is of some value to a person searching the web. And it means making sure it is done well and consistently. Today, longer form blogs or white papers are considered more valuable, but that length depends on the sector you’re in.
So, basically, you want to build content on your site that people will flow to naturally via organic searches. Content that is sharp, on-point and helpful. And really, that only makes sense. Google (and web searchers) don’t want to hear all your marketing crap. People are short on time and patience, so they want what they want NOW. Don’t we all?
The second part of the definition mentions “profitable customer action.” No kidding! What we’re all hoping is that if you give the customer some help that they will reward you with a purchase, either today or in the future.
How does that relate to search engine optimization (SEO)? Well, this is part of any good SEO campaign these days. All of that “under the hood” stuff we do STILL needs to be done, but we also need to help you build out the content on your website. This is different than how you may have dealt with an SEO agency or consultant in the past. Even just five years ago, we could do most of our “magic” without interacting too much with your staff — but those days are behind us now. I can’t overstate how crucial it is for Over Easy SEO to get involved in the content on your site.
